The Beat Drop provides music therapy for young people facing emotional and relational challenges, including trauma, anxiety, and disrupted attachment.
Grounded in psychoanalytic principles, our work recognises the importance of safe, attuned relationships that encourage emotional growth and healing. Through creative musical engagement, we offer a therapeutic space where young people can explore, express, and integrate difficult experiences.
Music becomes a container for feelings that may otherwise remain unspoken — supporting identity formation, self-regulation, and connection with others.
With a background in therapeutic work with teenagers and a passion for using music to aid connection, I created The Beat Drop for young people who stuggle to engage with support.
Before training as a music therapist, I worked for an adult mental health charity, where I gained valuable insight into a range of mental health challenges and the importance of compassionate, person-centred support.
During the final year of my three year music therapy training, I initiated a music therapy project in a mainstream secondary school, working with young people experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. Often labelled as “disruptive” or “difficult,” it was clear to me that these young people were misunderstood and were struggling to navigate a rigid, one-size-fits-all educational system.
By offering them a dedicated therapeutic space, either in a group or one-to-one, I witnessed the transformative potential of music therapy. Over time, both school staff and families reported significant changes in these young people, as they found new ways to express themselves, build trust, and connect.
We’re currently offering music therapy sessions to schools across the Cotswolds and developing exciting new community projects.
Whether you’re a school leader, parent, or professional – we’d love to hear from you.
